This year I have decided to make my own hampers and fill them with treats tailored to each persons personality and tastes.

My father in law is a huge fish lover, so his basket will have things like a funky lemon squeezer, lobster bisque, some potted shrimp, crab claw crackers, white wine etc.

Funnily enough my son gets bored of toys within minutes but never tires of my mobile phone or the TV remote control :-)

Joining a toy library could end up saving you money on toys that may never see the light of day. You can hire toys for up to 4 weeks at a time and also your children can play there as part of a group.

Most toy libraries accommodate all ages up until 13.

Do a google search for a toy library in your area and hopefully your little one will be enthralled by all the ...

Being a lover of herbs I have now promised myself that I am going to grow my own, I just hope I can grow them fast enough.

I could easily demolish a whole pack of corriander in one cooking session, tastes great but not very cost effective.

Which.co.uk has a fantastic page on growing your own herbs, easy to follow and even has a little bit on growing your own courgettes :-)

Really great if you are in a hurry

Frozen fruit

Great for the kids to nibble on (once defrosted of course) you can just take out what you need rather than having to cut up a whole fruit like a melon or mango.

Frozen berries also great to go into mini smoothies.

Filling up a sink with hot water or indeed, just leaving a tap to run whilst you wash your dishes has been said to use more energy and water than a modern dishwasher (which is great news to me as I hate washing up).

There are some extra little things you can do when using your dishwasher to make it even more energy efficient, sich as:

- always use on a full load

- use at a lower temperature

- skip the drying cycle and open the door slightly to allow items to air dry
